the chair with x-rays

i went to the dentist today. this is the first time i have been to the dentist in a while. i know that may seem foreign to a lot of you goody-goody types, but that's the truth. it was actually not that bad. i had about 15 x-rays done and it's a lot different then when you're a kid.

no more standing in front of the big machine where they x-ray your skull and you see your barrettes on the film like nails in your head. nope, none of that radiation goodness. now you just sit back in the chair and you bite on these little square tabs the size of a postage stamp.

the x-ray machine is this giant tube that is pointed at you like the water cannons at sea world. no pain, no weird burning sensation, nothing. just a little beep and in goes another postage stamp.

my consultation with the dentist was not as exciting. i have a rather large cavity (the true reason for my visit, as i suspected as much) and i have also lost a filling from my wild candy-eating youth. so next on the agenda is to get my cavities filled and fixed and of course i need to floss 2 times a day.

the best part of my visit though was when i was leaving. my dentist, who i like very much, gave me a warm smile and said, "when i fill your cavity, if it looks really bad i'll need to do a root canal."

great. this is just proof that i am getting old.
